Weather

Decided to use Mountain Radio weather forecast.

[Heather to cut and paste Westland and Canterbury High Country into text message. Send text to Sat. Phone.]

Procedure To Send Weather Forecast

  1. Start procedure at 18:00.
  2. Use Mike's Mac
  3. Go to: http://www.mountainradio.co.nz/weather.html
  4. Copy 'Canterbury High Country' and 'Westland Forecast'
  5. Go to 'Sublime Text 2'
  6. Delete current text; Command-a, Delete
  7. Paste clipboard; Command-v
  8. Shorten long lines by inserting 'Return' in line. [If inserting 'Return' does not work, then the editor is most likely in 'Command Mode'. Enter 'i' to go into 'Insert' mode. See Bottom-Left of window to see the current editor mode.]
  9. Copy lines; Command-a, Command-c
  10. Go into 'Terminal'
  11. Type 'send2satphone.

Appendix - Background

December 2014 Ruth Gray, Dave Quested and Mike Drake aborted their Mt Cook to Arthur's Pass (C2A) at Vane Stream; difficult crossing of Vane Stream, bad weather forecast, low food supply and Ruth'a knees supported the decision.

December 2016, Ruth Gray, Johathan Carr (CTC) and Mike Drake did a 2nd Stage of C2A. The route taken Manuka Point (Rakaia River) - Whitcombe Pass - Lauper Stream - Whitcombe Pass - Whitcombe Valley - Frew Hut - Hokitika Gorge (near).

April 2017 Ruth Gray and Mike Drake completed the 3rd and Final Stage of C2A. Route; Hokitika Gorge (near) - Frew Hut - Frew Saddle - Mathias Pass - Canyon Creek - North Mathias River - Boundary Creek - Moa Stream - Wilberforce River - Burnet Stream - Barker Hut - Carrington Hut - Waimakariri Bridge, true right side.

It has been our objective to fill-in-the-gap and visit Bracken Snowfield. This trip is to do just this. Unfortunately, Ruth had to pull out of this trip as she is preparing to immigrate to USA.
